A friend of mine sent me a link to new collection of Dolce & Gabbana, which made me think of commercial use of some rather unexpected motifs. Almost all collection for 2014 is inspired by orthodox frescoes and icons, as well as various orthodox religious motifs (the frescoes appear to be from a Catholic cathedral, though they remind me of orthodox frescoes, but I am no specialist on the subject).
My first thought was - it's such a kitsch! However, I made a certain effort to look at the collection more objectively, trying to disregard my personal opinion on religion (which I\m not going to discuss on here), as well as a feeling the models are wearing paintings of orthodox saints and they remind of modern nuns. After this mental effort the garments were less kitsch to me, however it didn't change my mind - I would never wear such a dress.
What do you think of the collection? Would you wear these garments, and does this concept anyhow differs from exploitation of the Arabic arabesques?
